Welcome to Brighton Marine Surveys. My name’s Aidan Tuckett and I’m a qualified marine surveyor. I’m an Accredited Member of the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA) and an A1 Senior Surveyor with the Marine Engineering Certifying Authority Ltd (MECAL).

I carry out yacht and commercial vessel surveys across SE England. The links to the left describe how I work, how I can help you and examples of the reports I provide.

I’ve worked in the boat building and fishing industries since the late 70’s, first as a boatbuilder and designer, then with fishing communities in developing countries, and since then through building and restoring classic sailing yachts. I carry out pre-purchase and insurance surveys on GRP, wood and steel sailing yachts and power boats.  Most of my work is on cruising and racing yachts across the SE, local powerboats, steel barges, narrow boats, and small commercial vessels. Classic Boat surveys cover sail and power yachts, ex commercial sailing vessels and steam tugs. I carry these out across Europe.

I provide objective marine survey reports about the condition of a boat in a clear, straightforward format that will give you the peace of mind to make your purchase decision, and which meet marine insurers requirements. I carry full professional indemnity and public liability insurance and follow the Code of Practice required by members of the YDSA and MECAL.

I also carry out coding surveys of small commercial vessels for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency under the new Sports and Leisure Vessel Code, and for tugs, workboats and pilot vessels, under Work Boat 3. Commercial fishing vessel inspections (new build and registration) are through MECAL.
